The Fashion Salon

                          The Fashion Salon was last weekend. Not usually the type of event I go for, but there are few enough events of any sort in Mayotte for me to try and go to the ones there are. On Saturday evening, there was the fashion show and competition. Every year, they organize a competition around one particular type of material.                                       The 11th of November was Armistice Day. A bank holiday. I'd been looking forward to sleeping in and having a nice lazy day, knowing I would be playing bridge in the evening and that I had a bit of marking to do. Raindrops aren't falling. Period.

The only existing postcard of Mayotte during the rainy season.                         The rainy season has just started. Just. As in two days ago. This is worrying the meteorologists.          You see, Mayotte usually gets two lots of rain. A small spell, which usually comes some time in October and lasts for a week or two, and is known as the "Pluie des Mangues", or mango rain. It's raining, it's pouring...

View from the flat.            The rainy season started in the middle of last week. Tropical rain is quite interesting. It goes by short blasts of heavy rain followed by great lengths of nothing. But in the wet season, it rains at least a little every day. These blasts of rain last for between five and twenty minutes, then it's all over, the sky clears up and that's it for the day (or for the morning, depending).
