The weather was pretty grotty this weekend, so I haven't been out much. In fact, Mayotte was placed under "strong rain warning" on Thursday evening, because a depression was forming in the Mozambique channel, along the coast of Mozambique. On Saturday morning, the depression turned into a tropical storm and was christened Hellen. Before coming to Mayotte, I didn't know that temperatures could be so constantly hot, never going lower than 27°C even at night. From the first rays of sunlight to the last, the temperature is between 28°C (dry season) and 34°C (rainy season), and it's hot straight away. It doesn't start off cool and get there slowly. In a tropical country, I have just found out that this is the single most important item to have in the house. It's light, it's colourful, it plugs in and it produces fireworks. It's wonderful. Buying a mosquito racket does strange things to the mind.
