Put it on your head.

         A series of rather interesting postcards has been released recently. They're all drawings of scenes in Mayotte. My favourite is the one above, as it's a mixture of two scenes I come across very regularly. Scooters here aren't just a quick way of getting from point A to point B. They're a fully-fledged means of transport for both people and merchandise. Salama Djema

             Mayotte is made up of two main islands, Grande-Terre and Petite-Terre. Between the two islands, the only means of transport is the ferry, known as the barge. There's even a verb for it: barger. Barging costs 75 centimes for a pedestrian, 2€ for a 50cc scooter, 4€ for a motorbike or scooter 125cc or above and 15€ for a car. The North from East to West

                   When P was here, he wanted to see if his scooter still worked. As I hadn't gone anywhere near it for the past few months, it didn't start. P pulled bits of it out and put it all back together, gave it some petrol and kept trying, and it started a couple of days later. Voulé on Sohoa Beach

            We went to a barbecue on the beach the other day. These are extremely common here, there are always groups of people cooking things on any beach you go to. Traditional barbecue food here is chicken wings and green bananas, which are either cooked in the fire or fried, and eaten as a vegetable.
