UNICEF Heroes Day

Yesterday was UNICEF Heroes Day: a worldwide, running-applications-and-various-other-gadgets-connected run whose goal was to raise money to vaccinate children. The idea was to get everybody to run 10 kilometres and connect via various running or fitness-based apps, GPS watches or whatever to the UNICEF Heroes website, thereby tracking all their practice and the run itself. There was no specific time for the run to start: you could do it at any time on that given day, even in... [Lire la suite]

Lille again.

As Nanny and Papi know from a rather frantic Facetime chat some time last week, I've been in Lille for the last week and a half, looking for a flat. It wasn't supposed to go that way. Originally, H and I had planned to spend the school holidays together in Lille, where he lives. Food Shopping

P went back to France at the beginning of December. At one point, he had to go to the local supermarket to forage for food. He went round the supermarket with his mouth hanging open, so many products were there. So many products, and so many varieties of each product. The supermarket was a third of the size of the local Jumbo Score in Majicavo-Lamir, but there were easily three times as many products. Then, he went to pay for his shopping. Second shock. A basket... [Lire la suite]

Ben and Toirfia

We went to our Very First Grand Wedding on Friday. Just part of it. Grand Weddings in Mayotte generally take place in the austral winter months, read from June to September. Weddings here are very ritualised occasions. For months before the wedding, the girl's family must completely furnish a house for her, the boy's family must prepare a suitcase full of clothes and accessories which he will give to the...
