These are some typical roadside scenes in Mayotte. The above photos were taken in the village of Tsoundzou. There's a bridge over a pretty river, where various outrigger canoes were parked.                                The bridge is actually fairly new. It was started about ten years ago, but the soil kept on being swept away by the river and the rainy season, so it only advanced in... [Lire la suite]

Rain at School

It's been raining quite a bit recently. This is the effect of all this rain on my school: quite impressive, actually. Everything and everyone gets soaked five minutes in, the kids go swimming in the puddles, bags and books included, and you can't hear a thing because of the water pounding down on the corrugated iron roof. This said, in the rainy season, everyone ends up soaking wet and the same brownish-red mud colour.          ... [Lire la suite]

There are lots of cars in Mayotte, many more than the roads can provide for in terms of capacity and maintenance. But one is above all. One car to rule them all. One car to find them. One car to bring them all and in the potholes bind them. In the land of Mayotte where the flags and doll-heads lie.                          Apparently a long time ago, before most of the ornaments were added. Still worth remarking he... [Lire la suite]
