There haven't been any underwater photos for a while.

               On Easter Sunday, I went out on a boat trip with the Bretons of Mayotte association. Dragged a friend along, too, and there also happened to be a couple of folk dancers on the same boat. We went to the north of Mayotte to look for dolphins and possibly manta rays. Found a few dolphins - not the usual few hundreds, just ten or so - and watched them for a bit, then we stopped off at the Îlots Choisil for lunch.                ... [Lire la suite]

Before coming to Mayotte...

                    Before coming to Mayotte, I didn't know that temperatures could be so constantly hot, never going lower than 27°C even at night. From the first rays of sunlight to the last, the temperature is between 28°C (dry season) and 34°C (rainy season), and it's hot straight away. It doesn't start off cool and get there slowly. Christmas Market

            There was a Christmas market today in front of the M’biwi Café, just down the road from us. Raving about Diving

                                   An interesting morning spent diving in the lagoon today! Called a baptême de plongée, it’s an initiation to diving where everything is done for you, the idea is really to see if you like it and if you’re capable of not panicking underwater. He runs... he strikes !

               It was the school cross-country race today. All teachers and staff had to be present, even those on their day off, which happened to be my case. We were sent into the undergrowth to cheer the students on and to give out water and sugar where necessary. However, there was a strike the day before and today – they plan to go on for three months if they need to – the water bottle delivery hadn’t arrived, so there was no water to give out. The sports...
